CD/DVD space usage feedback

Postby Carlos on Tue Jan 15, 2008 2:37 am

I'm trying Romeo Burner and it seems a great software.

However I'm missing two features:

1) while adding files/folders to a project a visual feedback of how much to fill a CD/DVD so I can easily stop to add files or even delete some extra files to fit the CD/DVD; most of the burning softwares have a progress bar alike to indicate how full is the CD/DVD; is it possible?

////Edited: I saw in the Help file: "The project details, including project's data size indicator are displayed on the bottom panel of the window:"
How can I make the Project Info panel visible?

2) backup a project so I can keep track the files in a CD/DVD even if I have to e.g. restore a system image or things like this; even to check a project (like a list of files) in another PC. Is it also possible?

Thank you in advance. :)

Hi Carlos,
you need to restart a computer first time to get the Project Info panel working.

Please tell more on your feature request: Do you wish to back just the list of files or files with contents?

Aleksandr

The project panel is shown after the restart. It seems to lightly blink (like it it was refreshing) tho. It'd be better if didn't.

Regarding the backup: a simple text file with project content would be enough as long as it would be possible to import it again (instead to make the entire project again due e.g. a serious crash or lost the information). Maybe an Import/Export item in Additional Actions.

A simple text file will make possible to access the project content in a PC without Romeo installed.

I hope I was clear.

Thank you! :)

Hi Carlos,
which kind of information you usually burn? As for us, the project structure is not so important as actual project contents. So its possible to implement import/export of project structure, however it would be nice to know how this will be used.

I usually make DVD backup of my mp3 and documents and also mp3 CDs for my car.

This feature could be as simple as a text file with a list of full paths. Of course you could prefer to create an own file association but that's fine as long as you keep the simple "text" structure of the file.

This feature could include support for some most common playlist like a .m3u file. For example: I could open a playlist file and Romeo would import it as a data project.

In my case, sometimes I need to know if I have a backup of a document in another PC so I could export some projects and copy them to a pen drive to always have an easy access to the files I already have a backup.

And one of the most important points of this export feature would be the ability to restore a project in case of a system reinstallation or something serious like that.

Maybe you could even include an "auto-export" feature so every project would have a backup copy in a set folder. That'll be great and even more secure.

In resume, for me it's important to keep track of projects, to have them as a backup that I can restore later if needed.

Thank you again and I really hope it'd be possible after all. :)

Thanks! But project files are references to specific folders. Are they the same on different computers?
Anyway, we are considering this feature to be implemented.

I know project files are references to specific folders.

Sometimes all I need is just see if a file already has a backup (like a catalog).

Let me explain how this feature can be also useful:

When I installed Vista I did as a fresh install (not an upgrade).

But since my actual software burner saves projects I was able to restore and burn them again.

If you make a simple export/import feature I can even edit the exported project in notepad and e.g. fix the drive letter in case I move all files from one to another partition.

What makes me wonder is that if I start to use Romeo I'll create several projects that I can't restore in case of a total system failure. I won't have even a list of files used and those projects.

I really hope you could find a way to add such feature.

Thank you again! :)

PS: sometimes I start a project and I burn it after one or even two months later.
